Meet Triz – The Heart Behind Downya Natural

Hi, I’m Triz — a self-taught formulator and the heart behind Downya Natural.

My story began at the tender age of seven, long before I even knew what “formulation” meant. Back in the late ’90s, we didn’t have shelves overflowing with exotic oils and butters like we do today.

I made magic with whatever I could find — a little oil from my mum’s cabinet (sorry, Mum 😅), some butter, imagination, and curiosity.

My siblings would watch me mix up mysterious concoctions and wonder what on earth I was doing — but the results spoke for themselves.

My hair thrived.
My skin glowed.
And little did I know, I was already walking my path.

From childhood experiments to surviving the relaxer era (and that unforgettable boda boda — motorbike — escape from Dad’s meeting 🙈), my journey has always circled back to one thing:

Care.

Care for my hair.
Care for my roots.
Care for my creativity.

Fast-forward to today — after years of learning, crossing borders, and rediscovering my love for natural beauty — I finally embraced my calling.

The Birth of Downya Natural

This journey began with the way my siblings and I always shared everything growing up. Those moments of joy, laughter, and connection inspired me to create a brand that carries that same spirit of care and togetherness.

At Downya Natural, we believe beauty should be protected, celebrated, and embraced in all its forms — and for curls and coils, protection is essential to retention.

Our story begins with protective scarves, deeply inspired by African heritage and culture — where scarves are more than fabric; they’re symbols of identity, style, and pride.

We are starting with protective silk scarves, crafted in 100% mulberry silk and available in 19mm and 22mm density, chosen intentionally to help reduce friction and minimise breakage.

But scarves are only the beginning.

Our vision is to grow into a complete natural self-care brand — offering protective accessories, haircare, and skincare, including nourishing scalp and hair treatments that work alongside our silk protection — all crafted with love, authenticity, and your well-being at heart.

What began as a simple way to protect my hair during the cold UK winters soon became something special.

Everywhere I went — from work to the streets — people admired how I styled my scarves. That’s when I realised scarves could be more than just protection.
